Dispute Types:
Unauthorized -Occurs when the cardholder has not authorized a transaction that has settled on their account. Typical scenarios that qualify for such disputes are lost/stolen cards used for making purchases, or transactions forced through by the merchant without the consent of the cardholder.
ATM/Cash not dispensed Cardholder tried to withdraw cash from an ATM and didn’t get part or the entire amount
Cancellation (hotel, good, services)
Merchant was notified and acknowledged the cancellation but cardholder still billed for the said transaction
Charged twice for the same transaction Cardholder was billed twice for a single transaction or merchant created two transaction receipts for a single transaction.
Merchandise not received A dispute where cardholder was billed for a merchandise or service that was not provided.
Credit not posted Cardholder was billed for a product/merchandise that was returned with no credit posted.
Paid by other means This is where cardholder initially tendered his card as payment for the transaction, but then decided to use cash, check or other card for paying the transaction.
Provisional Credit (PVC) -All dispute types are eligible for Provisional Credit EXCEPT (Merchandise not received) -A Provisional credit is a temporary credit which may be applied to the cardholder’s account in situations in which a transaction is being disputed. Upon completion of the research, a provisional credit may be removed or made permanent, depending upon the outcome of the investigation. -Customer has 10 BUSINESS DAYS to submit a Dispute form to be able to have a Provisional Credit. (Provisional credit only applies on Reg E cases)
What is a dispute claim?
A dispute claim is any verbal or written notification of error made by the customer. The Reg E clock starts once we are notified either verbally or in writing of an error occurring.
What is Regulation E? Act was passed in 1978 and it aims to protect the rights of consumers
