Sample Innovation Project (2022)

  1. What is the research problem? Has your team clearly defined and identified the problem that you are researching? Our problem is that energy is very expensive and hard to store. Electricity is costly and we could use renewable energy to power schools in our community.

  2. What research have you done on the problem? What other topics have you generated? We have researched that energy storage is expensive and that smart speed bumps can produce and store kinetic energy. For other topics, we have also tried to do solar panels, but we could not figure out how to store energy. We also tried wind turbines, but they can’t store energy and the wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine.

  3. Has your team generated innovative ideas independently before selecting and planning which one to develop? Please share Yes, we had an idea that we should put indoor bumps ( like the smart bumps) in the hallway so that when people step on it, it will give power by using kinetic energy.

  4. What are some ideas for your innovation? How will you go about presenting your innovation project? The main idea for the innovation project is smart speed bumps. We have thought of a way how it can help our community. We could put into our school, not just Burger King and the other little companies. We could put them in school parking lots, and other drive-throughs.

  5. Has your team developed an original idea or built on an existing one with a prototype model/drawing to represent your solution? (Has your team created a prototype?) Our team built our idea on an existing idea. We have not made a prototype or a model. We will have a 3D printer and create a model of a smart speed bump.

  6. What challenges might you face for the innovation project? First, we have to come up with a solution. Then we have to research it. Then we have to make that into a presentation. Finally, we have to make scripts and present them.

  7. Has your team shared their ideas, collected feedback, and included improvements in their solution? Yes, we have had several ideas. Again, we were thinking that we could put bumps in the buildings (like speed bumps) so people could walk on them and it would store and produce kinetic energy. The only problem is that the weight would not be enough.
